We were born thus ...

Keralites’ had a long and active association with Bengal, especially Calcutta and its suburbs. Nairs, a dominant Hindu community in Kerala, have a large chunk of their population in Kolkata. Here, they reside in different parts of the metropolis. Some of them were here for generations, others for lesser periods, but within them the lineage and legacy remains common. The idea to preserve and further our pristine time-tested traditions, which are closer to the hearts of Nairs for generations, were indeed a long-felt need. This vision fructified when 12 enterprising Nairs assembled at the residence of Late C. S. Nair at 25, Srimanta Dey Lane, Kolkata-700 012 on Monday, 15th August 1977 and formed an organisation in the name and style of Calcutta Nair Service Society. The modest, but solemn, launching of CNSS was done with Shri V. S. S. Nair lighting the ceremonial lamp in the presence of all assembled on that auspicious evening. That was an event that gave life and soul to the aspirations of all Nairs residing in Calcutta! Soon thereafter CNSS was registered under West Bengal Societies Regulations Act XXVI of 1961.

Today our Society has more than 800 Members, of whom many continue to reside in the metropolis and its precincts, while quite a few have moved out of Kolkata near and far. But CNSS is a live spirit in each of them and this solemn bond continues to flourish and fructify!
